How Piney Grove Serve Others
Missions are an important part of Piney Grove Baptist Church and its outreach in the local community and the world. Piney Grove believes that missions can be for everyone, including prayer, volunteering, giving, and service. Our Missions Council oversees the development and work of Mission Teams in our church. Our Director of Missions can help you find your calling and make a different info our community. Below is a list of the current Mission Teams that are active in our church and community.
Grove’s Helping Hand
Our food closet receives non-perishable food items throughout the church year. Hunger is an ever-present reality in our rural community. The food closet is available for those in and outside of the church who live in our immediate parish community. Families needing food should contact the church office at (336) 356-4196 where you will be connected with the Benevolence and Community Crisis Team.
Special Friends
The Special Friends team provides ministries to special needs persons in the community, including transportation from a local group home to worship, Christian education, coordinating volunteer efforts at the Special Olympics, Vacation Bible School, and social events throughout the year. We also have a Sunday school class specially designed for special needs adults.
Handymen and Handywomen
This team strives to be the presence of Christ through home repairs, disaster relief, and various other tasks around the house. When natural disaster strikes either at home or away, this group mobilizes and provides assistance. In the past, this group has provided both tornado and hurricane disaster relief from the North Carolina coast to the Mississippi coast. Throughout the year, this team is active serving congregational members as needs arise.
Jail Mission
This mission is a community partnership with other churches to provide Christian education and inspiration for men in the Surry County jail. Members visit the jail on Sunday mornings during the Sunday school hour, having prayer with them, and providing a lesson from our weekly Sunday school literature.
Backpack Meals
This team works in a partnership with local elementary schools. Throughout the year, the congregation donates non-perishable food items that are distributed to local elementary schools. Many elementary students receive free lunch during the week, which means many of them go without through the weekend. These backpacks stocked with fruit, soup, pudding, among other foods and a variety of snacks, feed our hungry children each weekend throughout the academic year.
Mission Trip Scholarships
Each year we offer scholarships from our Global Missions Christmas Offering to church members going on international mission trips. In the past, our members have been to Ecuador, Nicaragua, Cambodia, Libya, Egypt, Romania, Israel, Honduras, Guatemala, Kenya, South Africa, to name a few. The rest of our Local Missions Christmas Offering goes to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Offering for Global Missions.
PGBC Diaconate
The deacon body is divided into four ministries teams: Deacon Family Ministry, Ordinance Team, Widow and Widower Team, and the Community Crisis Team. The Widow and Widower team provides grief materials and connects with these special individuals on a regular basis. When various crises face members of our church and those in our immediate Piney Grove community, the Community Crisis team responds. If you’re aware of a crisis, contact the church office at (336) 356-4196 or pgbcsecretary@pgbcmountairy.org
Children’s Missions
GAs (Girls in Action) and RAs (Royal Ambassadors) are mission groups for girls and boys in elementary school. Younger children are a part of Mission Friends. These groups meet on 4th and 5th Wednesday nights of each month at 6:30 PM. They learn about missionaries and find creative ways to participate in missions. They also attend local and CBFNC mission events designed for children.
